Ready…set…go

It’s alive! Larry Brown has come back more times than the guy in the horror movie who always rises up after being shot, stabbed, chain sawed, and blown up 32 times. Appropriate that the Grizzlies are after him. Grizzlies should be after him, and after anyone who thinks he can coach today’s players.

It’s not surprising that the Lakers are down 2-0 to Phoenix. It’s surprising that anyone is suprised that they are. The most interesting question about LA is who the complimentary player to Kobe Bryant eventually will be. You don’t win with just one superstar in the NBA, you must have two. Right now the Nuggets, with Anthony and Iverson have a much better shot at a title than Phil Jackson’s Lakers.

Speaking of Phil Jackson. How old is this guy anyway? When I was young (and Edison was working on electricity) Jackson had already been with the Knicks for 10 years. He was the lamest power forward of all time. Nice guy, great work ethic, but there was nothing much there.

OK, so we can’t say Ryan Howard is overweight. How about Ruthesque? Or David Wellsish? If I were the Phillies I would be worried about Howard’s knees long-term. At his age he’s already on the way to Mo Vaughn land.

The Cowboys are making noise about moving up in the draft. But for what? Calvin Johnson would be a great addition, but there aren’t enough padded rooms in all of Texas to hold Terrell Owens if Dallas brings in a receiver with Johnson’s ability. He’d probably throw himself in front of a stationary bike.

I don’t care much for Alex Rodriquez and I have no idea why. It’s not the money, everybody in baseball is overpaid. It’s not his postseason failures. It’s just that he seems to be so aware of himself. Do you think Babe Ruth worried about whether Waite Hoyt liked him? The term “get over yourself” comes to mind.

The whole Roger Clemens thing is like a bad relationship. Get back together. Break up. Think about getting back together. Talk about setting a deadline for the thinking about getting back together again. Then you do and they’re out the door after 5 innings. As an Astro fan I wish the Rocket would fire up and head for New York.

Looked at some old lists of “5 Star” college recruits at Scout.Com. Makes you realize what an inexact science football recruiting is. True, alot of the 5 star guys are getting ready for the draft, but alot of them are also getting ready for NFL Europe or didn’t make it at all. Hope they got something out of college aside from a letterman’s jacket.

NASCAR is on it’s way to becoming professional golf. Alot of white guys whose names you don’t remember playing a sport where you know from week to week who is going to win.

Times up.
